The culture of our day is being reflected by the popular music of our day. We can notice the fingerprints of a certain generation in the lyrics and sound of the music. It is a pretty spot-on commentary about the youth and media culture of our day. And in this present age, culture is changing far more frequently than ever before and thus reflecting styles of music that are evolving and birthed just as rapidly.

It is clear that changes in music changes the society’s consensus worldview. This is likely to explain why musical tastes change so quickly today. In other words, culture and music are likely to flow together. What our parents used to dig, today’s kids consider it as lame. However within a few years, the music which we think is cool now will probably be outdated. It has nothing against the music. It is just a representation, a manifestation of what is constantly changing around us. However, we need to be aware of our modern day culture as with the changing culture the change in music is being reflected.

Moral impact

The impact of music is not only reflected in our society but also it is reflected on the morals that we hold now. Nowadays in the styles of music there are a plethora of songs with lyrics which helps to glorify sex, drugs, and violence. Researchers cannot really link the cause and effect behaviour of listening to these types of songs which directly induces this type of behaviour. Many researchers and people agree that this type of songs surely provides encouragement to the kids

It is believed that morals and behaviour especially in teens are not completely guided by the lyrics that they are listening because there are number of factors which help to build moral. However, music can definitely play a significant role in determining what is right or wrong. So it becomes wary about the messages that we are putting out with our song. We would have the influence to empower the hearts and minds of the next generation and that is something to truly take hold of.

Emotional impact

This is probably the most identifiable and direct impact which music has on people in society. Music makes us feel a certain way. Music is likely to set our moods and create atmospheres. Being a human, we are so behaviourally influenced by the way we feel. That is why we throw on an upbeat playlist while we are working out, put on jazz on a romantic date, or get up and dance when a four-on-the-floor beat is going down. While waking up in the morning everyone know exactly what songs to play to get their focused and ready for what is up ahead in the day.

Music has the potential to change a mood or shift to an atmosphere and also to encourage different behaviour. In fact, the average American is likely to listen to music four hours each day! However can you imagine what kind of impact music is having on their emotions throughout the day, whether we consciously realize it or not. According to the emotional impact, the most important thing to consider while listening to music is: What am I feeling, and how do I want my listeners to feel when they hear this song? Because what you are feeling will help you determine about how you will feel, and that is likely to carry a lot of weight.

So in short, it has been found out that music has the power to culturally, morally and emotionally influence our society. The more intentional we become with the sounds, messages, the more we are likely to release our mood through music.
