Tips to Increase Your Memory

In this digital age, it is very easy to neglect our memories and many of us can easily "google" the things which we tend to forget. Though it seems unnecessary, but memorization is important for many reasons. It not only disciplines the mind, making it more focused and productive but also helps us to hold and inform how we think about things and helps us to understand concepts more quickly. Having a strong memory mainly depends on the vitality, versatility, and the overall health of the brain. However, incorporating a few actions to our routine can help harness the activity of the brain.

1. PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Physical exercise is considered to be the most productive habit that you can ever adopt as it is likely to play a number of roles when it comes to human health. If you maintain this on the daily basis then it helps our mind, body, metabolism, blood circulation and other similar activities to run smoothly. By the time an individual reaches adulthood, it helps mind to form a neutral pathway and need to perform physical exertion so that he can maintain balance between his brain and body activities.

2. REDUCE STRESS

You must daily perform meditation for at least 15- 30 mins so that you can reduce your anxiousness and be more rational and empathetic. In research it has been found that meditation helps to enhance concentration and improves sleep. However, the best time to meditate is the early morning. The other thing that you can do to improve your memory is to do yoga. Yoga helps to increase physical strength and also helps brain from shrinking with age.

3. ENOUGH SLEEP

Physical exercise and reducing stress are not enough to improve your memory. You also require sound sleep for your memory to stay active. Different age group of people requires different amount of sleep for steady work of mind. For example:-  adults need between 7.5 and 9 hours of sleep each night while the children and teenagers need even more between 8.5 and 18 hours, depending on their age. If your brain is not getting enough sleep then it affects your brain’s ability to do this and also hampers your memory. While you are sleeping your brain consolidates information into your long-term memory bank.

4. DISCONNECT

If you want to increase your memory then you must cut down on your use of technology for even 30 minutes as it can improve your brain health and help you think more deeply. If you spend time away from your computer then it is likely to make you less likely to engage in working outside of business hours. It will also help you to stay more present in the moment, and buys you time to do stress-relieving things like exercising or meditating.

5. LAUGH AND SOCIALIZE

Research suggests that laughter can improve short-term memory in older adults. It also increases endorphins and boosts the immune system, lowering stress and improving memory amongst all age groups. You are advised to watch comedic films or YouTube videos, share jokes with friends, attend a stand-up comedy show. If you do things that make you laugh on a regular basis then your memory is likely to get improved. You must also spend time with people whose company you enjoy, and who make you feel like the best version of you. Socializing helps to decrease anxiety, boost self-confidence, and distract us from the things that stress us out.

6. IMPROVING YOUR DIET

In order to increase memory, you are advised to improve your diet. You must take antioxidants such as blue berries and pomegranates. Blueberries help to protect the brain and may reduce the effects of age-related illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Pomegranate are also source of good source of antioxidants to increase our memory. You can even eat healthy fats, nuts & seeds, whole grains, beans, dark chocolate and drink plenty of water or freshly brewed tea.

7. BRAIN WORKOUT

You should never forget to challenge the abilities of your brain by involving it in some kind of activity daily. Whether it is writing or reading, the mind has to be open towards new subjects each day in order to increase the memory. You can look for the best pens to browse through the collections and to uncover the pen of your dreams. Simply note down your daily schedule so that you keep an easy access to it and you can track it down easily. Nothing is better than getting yourself involved in a rewarding yet challenging skill that can not only help you out with your memory but can also benefit you in the longer run.

8. AVOID MULTI TASKING

Studies have shown that your brain cannot efficiently switch between tasks, meaning that when you multitask, you actually lose time. Research has also shown that we are less likely to retain what we learn when we are multitasking. In short, if you want to remember something, do not do it while multitasking.

9. LEARN NEW THINGS

You can learn a language, play an instrument and increase your vocabulary.  Learning new things will keep your brain on its toes, so to speak. When we do the same things every day, our brain does not receive the stimulation it needs to grow, so be sure to introduce new things regularly. If you want to help a memory stick in your brain, say it out loud as you complete the activity associated with it.

10. TEST YOURSELF DAILY

It would be wise to test yourself daily if you want to improve your memory. You can give yourself little tests throughout the day. For example: - while leaving the market, ask yourself to describe what your grocer man looked like: his/her hair, eyes, shirt colour, name etc.

Keeping the mind and body sharp can be little complicated task to deal with, especially if you are someone who struggles with what things should be remembered on a daily basis. Hope the above tips and tricks may help you to improve your memory.
